About
I hold a BSc (hons) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a UKCP recognised Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision. I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is on the Accredited Voluntary Register (set up by the Department of Health which recognises high standards have been met as set by the Professional Standards Authority).
I work with adults, including couples and with children and young people, including those who have complex backgrounds. I have a special interest in working with the effects of Little-t Trauma. These might be described as the events which exceed our capacity to cope, ie neglect, bullying, abuse, divorce, job loss or abrupt changes in our environment. I also have 30 years experience in the corporate business sector coaching and managing teams and have a real understanding of the associated stresses and strains which can thrive in that environment. I agree with the research which proves that the relationship you build with your therapist is the most important factor in the success of your therapy. I use my understanding of the therapeutic process and theories, my skills and knowledge about relationship dynamics and my ability to tune into your experience to build a therapeutic relationship which is genuine, empathic and supportive. |
I operate mainly from The Quadrant on Nuart Road in Beeston. Other locations are possible, including The Humber Building and Sage Therapy Centre. Each location has secure access and a waiting area; there's even a cafe at The Quadrant. The rooms where your counselling/therapy takes place have comfortable seating, warm lighting, ventilation and are sound insulated.

Why Therapy?
Lasting change IS possible and I really am passionate about supporting you to improve your own life experience and bring about lasting, positive change. To achieve this, I work in a way that draws on various therapeutic models based around relationship, our unconscious thoughts and feelings, how we have developed our beliefs and rules and patterns which have directed us so far. I combine this with building a relationship with you where you feel able to talk through the issues affecting you and make sense of how they are contributing to what you're feeling here and now.
In addition to the traditional talking therapies, there is the opportunity for you to work creatively with a variety of mindfulness, body awareness, play, art, role-play, imagery and symbols where you choose to do that.
Where children and young people are involved, I believe in the importance of working collaboratively with those who surround the child and believe this approach is important in providing the right conditions for change.
